Darthaven Marina Limited acquires Marine Engineering (Looe) Limited (MEL)

Darthaven Marina Limited has acquired Marine Engineering (Looe) Limited (MEL), a marine engineering business based in Plymouth, Devon.

Established in 1951, Marine Engineering Looe Ltd is the longest standing Volvo Penta Dealer in the UK. It provides marine engineering services within both the commercial and leisure sectors, including engine, drive and gearbox servicing and rebuilds, emergency storm pumps, and water pumping stations for customers including Princess Yachts and the Ministry of Defence. It also offers antifouling, valeting and generator installations for the leisure marine sector.

Its team of mobile engineers covers the UK and Europe, working on fishing vessels, commercial ferry boats and landing crafts.

Jamie Newton, Managing Director of MEL, is retiring from the family business to concentrate on his other commitments and approached Darthaven Marina to discuss a sale. He said:

Darthaven Marina is a 270-berth marina on the River Dart in Kingswear, Devon. It offers a full range of boatyard services from lift to launch for both leisure and commercial vessels up to 120 feet in length. Facilities include engineering repairs, rebuilds and services; electronic navigation installs; refinishing and metal fabrication, as well as year-round storage and a chandlery/parts counter.

John Holman, CEO of Darthaven Marina Limited, said:

Darthaven Marina Limited’s new operation on Queen Anne’s Battery Marina in Plymouth will trade as Darthaven Services Plymouth.
