Engineering company Royal HaskoningDHV acquires Arch Henderson

Engineering company Royal HaskoningDHV has acquired Arch Henderson, in a move to strengthen its maritime position in Scotland and globally.

Royal HaskoningDHV is an independent consulting engineering company dating from 1881. It integrates engineering, design, consultancy, software and technology for clients in sectors including maritime, aviation and water industries. The company has over 6,500 employees working from offices in more than 25 countries across the world.

Through its mission Enhancing Society Together, it develops sustainable solutions to local and global issues. Within the maritime industry, the business enhances ports, terminals, and shipyards through innovation and sustainable development, including future-proofing sites with smart solutions that protect people and environments as sea levels rise and climate impacts grow. Areas of expertise include container terminals, cruise terminal development, defence infrastructure and dry bulk terminals and ports.

By bringing Arch Henderson on board, Royal HaskoningDHV significantly strengthens its UK business to over 800-strong, with a market-leading position in maritime.

Arch Henderson, launched in 1919, offers specialist services in the design of harbour works, coastal protection schemes and ship repair facilities. This specialism in maritime civil engineering works continues but the firm has expanded to include architectural, civil, structural, and mechanical engineering and Principal Designer services for a wide range of industrial, energy and commercial sectors.

The business designs harbours, piers, deep-water quays, slipways, container berths, dry-docks, Ro-Ro berths, shipbuilding yards, offshore service bases, breakwaters and decommissioning facilities. It also carries out feasibility studies, dredging schemes, land reclamation, coastal protection projects, surveys and diving inspections on coastal structures; and advises on repairs and remedial works, for clients including Port and Harbour Authorities, Local Authorities and the Government.

Arch Henderson employs over 60 staff and operates throughout the UK and abroad, with offices in Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, Lerwick, Southampton and Thurso.
