Company: Marine Chandlery, Powerhouse Marine Ltd
Business Type: Chandlery
Powerhouse Marine specialises in marine engine sales, servicing and repairs, as well as leisure boat parts, jet skis, kayaks and trailers. Based in Blaydon, Newcastle Upon Tyne, it was launched in 1987 offering sales, service, spares and repair of outboard and inboard engines, opening a dedicated showroom at the Derwenthaugh Marina in Blaydon a year later, giving it direct access to marine facilities for testing and servicing related work, whilst also adding offerings such as jet skis, kayaks and trailers.
Mike Newbold, owner of Powerhouse Marine Ltd, said:
“I’m thrilled that the business is going to another local marine business, and I am sure they will have as much success as I have had over the years.
“I know that the Marine Chandlery team will look after our loyal customers, and I look forward to becoming a customer myself for parts and servicing of my own boat.”
Marine Chandlery, based on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate, in North Shields, was founded in early 2024 following its acquisition of Storrar Marine, a long-standing North East chandlery. Product ranges include clothing, electronics, maintenance and safety equipment, alongside fish finders and wetsuits.
Geoff Moore, owner and Managing Director of Marine Chandlery, said:
“Marine Chandlery has achieved remarkable growth in a short time, focusing on in-store and e-commerce sales of a wide variety of marine products, and establishing our servicing department. With the acquisition of Powerhouse Marine, we are determined to expand our service offering, and to carry forward their long-standing tradition of excellence and continue serving the maritime community in the North East and beyond for decades to come.”
Following the acquisition, Powerhouse Marine’s full servicing team, tools and expertise have moved to Marine Chandlery’s North Shields site, consolidating operations under one roof.
The deal follows the recent purchase of Brixham-based Bayside Marine and positions Marine Chandlery as a leading marine supplier in the North East, combining decades of knowledge with enhanced customer service and digital accessibility.
