South Pacific Diesel Systems has been acquired by Scania New Zealand, strengthening Scania's presence and customer support capability across the New Zealand market.
Founded in 1984, South Pacific Diesel Systems began when diesel engineers Ross Williamson and Hugh Mackenzie were appointed as the New Zealand and South Pacific distributor for Scania Industrial and Marine diesel engines. Based in Wellington, New Zealand, the company has become one of the longest-standing independent distributors of Scania Power Solutions globally and a leading supplier of Scania diesel engines in New Zealand.
The business supports approximately 1,400 Scania engines across marine, industrial, and power generation applications. The company offers genuine factory “service exchange” components, providing financial savings to customers alongside a “green” alternative to brand-new parts.
Cylinder heads, water pumps, injectors, turbochargers, starter motors and alternators are all offered via the SCANIA service exchange program, with the parts providing up to a 50% saving, whilst still carrying the same new-part warranty.
Ross Williamson, South Pacific Diesel Systems’ Managing Director, said:
“For customers, the transition will deliver tangible, day-to-day benefits, including continued comprehensive parts availability and closer coordination between service, technical support, and supply chain teams. Customers will also gain direct access to Scania’s national parts distribution network.”

Scania is a global manufacturer of trucks, buses and engines, with operations focused on transport and power solutions. In New Zealand, the company provides vehicles, services and after-sales support across the heavy transport, marine and industrial sectors.
It is a leading supplier of solutions and services for sustainable transport, employing more than 50,000 people in about 100 countries. Service-related products account for a growing proportion of the company’s operations, assuring Scania customers of cost-effective transport solutions and maximum vehicle uptime.
Victor Carvalho, Scania New Zealand’s Managing Director, commented:
“South Pacific Diesel has played an important role in Scania’s success in New Zealand over many years in providing Power Solutions to the New Zealand market.
“This transition allows us to strengthen customer relationships, invest further in our people and infrastructure, and continue raising the bar in service quality and operational excellence. This means that Scania New Zealand can consolidate the sales and service offerings of marine and industrial engines, alongside our current product suite.”

According to Scania New Zealand’s press statement, customers can expect business as usual, supported by direct access to Scania’s national parts distribution network and the same high level of expertise they know and trust.
South Pacific Diesel Systems has been a valued and trusted partner of Scania New Zealand’s for many years, delivering Scania Power Solutions to operators right across New Zealand. By bringing these operations together, the businesses are ensuring continuity for customers and employees, while enhancing coordination across service, technical support, and supply chain operations.
