Bank Hall Dry Dock is now for sale due to the intended retirement of its owners, this Inland Waterways dry dock and maintenance business is based on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and is in Burnley, Lancs. It is held on a 25-year commercial lease from Burnley Council.
Bank Hall was originally a boat builders dock known as Birley’s dock before becoming a maintenance dock for the local colliery work boats, carrying coal to Whitebirk Power Station in Blackburn. It was regarded as the best dry dock in the area until it closed in 1971.
After making a successful planning application to restore the site and following significant investment in a restoration and build project, which included the construction of the fully covered work shed. The current owners opened the dock once again in October 2014.
The dry dock today is a fully working maintenance dock and boatyard offering canal boat owners wide ranging services including boat building, bottom blacking, painting, welding and fabrication, anodes, and general repairs.
Bank Hall is the only dry dock suitable for widebeam boats between Skipton and Wigan. The site is secure being fully alarmed and monitored by CCTV.
