Engineering company Elomatic acquires Ablemans LCS Oy

Elomatic, an international consulting and engineering company, has acquired Ablemans LCS Oy (ALCS), which deals in cruise vessel refits, dockings and technical services.

The acquisition of ALCS marks a significant moment in the strategic development of Elomatic’s portfolio, enhancing the offerings from the engineering company for shipowners by providing a full suite of technical services and solutions.

Elomatic, based in Finland, was established in 1970 and has offices in 20 countries. The company specialises in innovative solutions that can minimise the environmental impact and operating costs of shipping, including its Elogrid™ tunnel thruster grid system, which significantly reduces the additional resistance and fuel consumption of ships.

It offers services ranging from consultancy to comprehensive ship design projects, and covers areas such as hydrodynamics, machine solutions and usability, as well as new fuel types, such as green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol.

With this latest acquisition, Elomatic can expand its offerings into areas such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), air lubrication systems (ALS), scrubber conversions, future fuels upgrades, and life-saving appliances. This expansion, when combined with Elomatic’s current technology, will serve as an entry point for comprehensive fuel savings and energy efficiency solutions. As the maritime industry adapts to more stringent emissions regulation, measured by CII and EEXI, these innovative solutions will become increasingly more vital in achieving compliance.

Rami Hirsimäki, Senior Vice President, Marine at Elomatic, said:

ALCS, with its HQ in Turku, Finland, specialises in managing refit and retrofit projects for the shipbuilding industry. It offers services in shipbuilding, new-build construction, conversion and retrofit dry dockings. The company works alongside ship owners to produce lifecycle service plans.

Hannu Petäjäsuvanto, CEO, at ALCS, commented:

The acquisition establishes Elomatic as an end-to-end solutions provider for the maritime industry. By combining ALCS’s expertise in fleetwide conversions and technical upgrades with Elomatic’s expertise in fuel and energy efficiency solutions, the company is now equipped to offer a comprehensive solution package to help shipowners manage the increasingly demanding sustainability goals of the marine industry.
