Founder of ptw Shipyard has 100% ownership after acquisition

Spanish superyacht refit and repair specialist ptw Shipyard has acquired the owner stake held by Melita Marine Group, bringing the founder’s ownership to 100 per cent of the shipyard.

The acquisition gives the ptw Shipyard founders full operational control so they can continue to expand their superyacht and megayacht refit and repair business.

ptw Shipyard, based alongside the deepwater Port Tarraco in the port city of Tarragona, around 50 minutes south of Barcelona, was founded in 2017, and offers refit and repair services for yachts – a one-stop shop to cover all superyacht needs from upholstery and joinery to hydraulics and specialist electronics.

Xavier Mercado, CEO and founder of ptw Shipyard, sees the acquisition as an opportunity to maintain and develop a strong position from which to offer a complete refit service.

He commented:

Within its site of over 15,000sqm, ptw Shipyard has direct waterfront access, two workshops devoted to yacht painting, carpentry and interiors, engineering and mechanics, electrics and systems, as well as access to Caterpillar authorised sales and service.

With a travel lift able to take vessels of up to 300 tonnes, it is able to accommodate yachts up to 45m in length on its extensive hard standing, and also has the capacity to work on larger yachts of up to 120m in the client’s berth.
