Sanlorenzo announces acquisition of yacht charter company Equinoxe

Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo S.p.A. has announced the acquisition of Italian yacht charter company and broker Equinoxe.

The purchase of the Turin-based yacht charter company was completed for €2.1 million, of which about 10 per cent will be paid over the next three years subject to meeting certain conditions, and is part of a broader strategy designed to expand the range of services dedicated to Sanlorezo’s customers.

The Sanlorenzo shipyard, with its HQ on the banks of the river Magra, inside the Montemarcello-Magra natural reserve, in Ameglia, in the province of La Spezia, in Liguria, has been building high-quality motor yachts since 1958.

A second division is based in the Tuscan seaside town of Viareggio, the historic centre of motor yacht manufacturing in Italy, and a third division is based in Massa, while the production of superyachts is located in the La Spezia shipyard.

In more than half a century the shipyard has built about 1,000 yachts, and offers different models, including SL, SD and SP ranges of yacht, and the Steel and Explorer ranges of superyacht.

Offering clients the opportunity to also charter their yachts via an in-house team of charter experts, Sanlorenzo aims to help offset the operating costs of new yachts, as well as offer an entrance to the market for potential charterers.

Massimo Perotti, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sanlorenzo, commented:

Founded in 1986 by Corrado Di Majo and Alessandro Ussi, Equinoxe has reported over 500 yacht sales since its inception, with 350 megayachts ordered and built in 2016 alone, and is one of the earliest members of MYBA, the Worldwide Yachting Association.

Di Majo is a seasoned sailor, having completed one edition of the legendary Ostar solo transatlantic race from Britain to the US, three editions of the Whitbread crewed round the world race (now better known as the Volvo Ocean Race), and numerous Atlantic crossings.
Turning his passion into a career felt like the only way to go for Di Majo and that lifestyle choice became a reality when he met one of Italy’s top athletes, Ussi, in 1986, and founded Equinoxe Yachts with him.
