Dedicated marine agency First Peninsula Marine has successfully facilitated the freehold sale of the ‘Boating World’ boatyard and marine services business in Cornwall, by Treluggan Marina Limited to Stirling & Son.

Boating World is an idyllically situated and uniquely picturesque boatyard located 5 miles to the west of Plymouth and 2 miles from the village of Landrake on the western banks of the River Lynher.

Recognised as being a friendly and professionally managed boatyard which has not been on the open market for 12 years, the site is freehold and overall is circa 20 acres consisting of roadways throughout, a slipway reported to be the longest in the UK, wooded areas, a former quarry, the boatyard itself, waterfront with pontoons and river bank moorings including zoning for residential occupation.

The main operational building has two storeys with the ground floor housing the chandlery and engineering workshop and the first floor being the main office, training and conference rooms, kitchen and lounge bar. Treluggan Marina Limited acquired the business in March 2004. However, the location has had a boatyard in operation since 1975 following the demise of granite quarrying on the site in the early 1970’s.

Income is generated by the business in a number of different ways; in terms of the boatyard this includes from storage, moorings, yard services including winterisation work, cranage, repairs, refits, mast rigging, marine electronics installation and engineering services. Other income includes vessel brokerage, rental income, chandlery sales and miscellaneous items such as metered electricity charges. The business has developed an impressive stable of marine trade dealerships and industry accreditations overtime including being an RYA Shore Based Training Centre. The yard capacity extends to 500 vessels depending on layup configuration.

Stirling & Son is a wooden boat builder and classic yacht restoration business located at the historic No.1 Covered Yard at Devonport in Plymouth. Owners Will and Sara Stirling plan to run the newly acquired boatyard to complement the core Stirling & Son business to include carrying out repairs and maintenance on smaller wooden boats as well as running all the other aspects of such a large yard.
