A marine equipment specialist has been bought out of liquidation by superyacht company West Nautical, after going on the market in early 2024.
West Nautical, the superyacht brokerage and management company, has acquired Storrar Marine, based in Newcastle upon Tyne, in a bid to diversify its portfolio and expand its offering to the wider maritime community.
Storrar Marine was originally launched in 1973 by Rob Storrar as a sail loft in North Shields, moving location and launching a chandlery in 1985. It went into liquidation at the start of the year blaming “a combination of the Covid lockdowns and the financial crisis”.
West Nautical was founded in 2014 by Managing Director Geoff Moore, and is a full-service superyacht company with its HQ in Jesmond, as well as offices in five locations overseas, including Cyprus and Dubai. It offers yachts for sale and charter, as well as owner services such as vessel and crew management, marketing and insurance.
Moore said:
“The team have ambitions of streamlining and modernising the services to ensure the company continues to meet and exceed expectations of boat owners across the region as well as revitalising the local maritime community.
“The company aspires to be the leading service provider in both inboard and outboard boats along with trailer servicing, continuing to uphold the fantastic reputation set by Storrar Marine under the previous ownership. Effective customer service and support will be at the forefront of their operation to ensure the needs of patrons within the local community continue to be met.”

Storrar Marine will relaunch this week under the new name Marine Chandlery in its headquarters at Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate.
