The Marine & Property Group Ltd (The Marine Group) has acquired Watchet Marina

Watchet Marina has been acquired by The Marine Group for an undisclosed sum, and comes after careful and collaborative negotiations between the Cardiff-based Marine Group, Watchet Harbor Marina Ltd and Somerset West and Taunton Council.

Watchet Marina was opened in 2001 and is located within Watchet Harbour, which has a centuries-old tradition as a safe sanctuary in the Bristol Channel. The harbour is divided into outer and inner areas where the outer west side remains tidal.

The group’s Harbour Management team will commence a major upgrade programme, and a comprehensive dredging campaign will begin in late spring. This will ensure that adequate water depths are available within the marina. A long-term maintenance programme will mean the harbour never again suffers from siltation issues.

The rehabilitation of the harbour will be community focused. The Marine Group has a track record of working with local businesses and communities and welcomes local engagement.

Christopher Odling-Smee, Director of The Marine Group, said:

The Marine Group has ambitious investment plans for Watchet and, working closely with the community, plans on delivering upgraded landside facilities in future.

Cllr Marcus Kravis, Executive Member for Asset Management at Somerset West and Taunton Council, commented:

Having carried out dredging in the harbour previously, The Marine Group is confident it will improve the marina and its facilities.

Director of Operations at The Marine Group Rob Freemantle concluded:
