Warwickshire canal marina sells prior to auction

A Warwickshire canal marina has sold for more than £1 million to Crafted Boats Ltd, a day before it was due to go to auction, after ‘multiple enquiries and competitive offers'.

Fenny Marina, which is on the Oxford Canal at Station Fields in Fenny Compton, has been in operation since the 1970s and includes 85 boat berths for permanent, winter and temporary leisure moorings, together with a chandlery, store, and electric and water hook-ups. There is also a dry dock and workshops available for narrowboat blacklings and surveys. The site also includes a three-bedroomed bungalow and extensive outbuildings.

It was on the market with a guide price of £950,000. The agents Bond Wolfe said there was such strong interest from potential buyers that it sold for £1.1m before the planned auction.

James Mattin, Managing Director and Auctioneer at Bond Wolfe, said:

Crafted Boats Ltd is a family-owned firm of boat builders and repairers based in Bromsgrove. Established in 1953 as J. L. Pinder and Son, it was incorporated as Crafted Boats Ltd in 2001. It supplies steel craft including commercial workboats, hire boats, narrowboats, cruisers, and barges. Its team of boat fitters can fit out craft to any stage of completion, from initial design to sea trials.

Aaron Pinder, a Director of Crafted Boats Ltd, said:

MFG Solicitors provided legal advice on the deal for Crafted Boats Ltd, while Freeths Solicitors advised the vendor, whose identity has not been disclosed.
